AN EVENING OF LUXURY AND HILARITY
Board Member, Consultant, Speaker, Author
David has a portfolio of interests keeping him busy across some key theme areas of technology for public good, healthcare and education (not an adequate description of his extraordinary list of activities). He is also an ex. comedian, published author and public speaker. We’re especially delighted to have David participating in our event for the second time.
Court of Appeal Justice
Retired Court of Appeal judge Lyn Stevens was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1997 and to the High Court bench in Auckland in 2006. We're privileged to have Justice Stevens supporting Battle of the Suits for the second time (and we suspect it's because he enjoyed himself so much at our first debate in 2019).
Honourable Justice of the High Court
Justice Moore is undoubtedly one of our city’s most respected legal practitioners. He was appointed Crown Solicitor for Auckland in 1994, a role which gave him overall responsibility for the prosecution of all indictable crime in the region. Justice Moore added to his CV in 2000 when the British Government appointed him public prosecutor for Pitcairn Island. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 2012 and a High Court judge in 2014. We're delighted that Simon has agreed to adjudicate Battle of the Suits for the second time.
Politician and Entrepreneur
A former NZ National Party politician, Steven was a broadcasting entrepreneur before he entered the House of Representatives in 2008. In the same year he became Minister of Transport and Minister for Communications and IT. His appointment later, as Minister of Science and Innovation, then of Finance and Infrastructure, gave rise to Steven's reputation and moniker as “Minister of Everything” - during the National Party term ending in 2017 and prior to his resignation from politics in 2018.
Politician, Mayor, Counsellor
The very remarkable Hon Dame Fran Wilde DNZM QSO is a former Wellington Labour member of Parliament and the first woman to serve as Mayor of Wellington. Since retiring from the Mayoralty in 1995, Dame Fran went on to serve in many roles including 7 years until 2003 as CEO of (then) Trade New Zealand. Returning to local politics in 2004 she subsequently chaired the Greater Wellington Regional Council from 2007 to 2015. More recently, Dame Fran's extensive governance experience benefits numerous boards.
Sports Marketer and Strategist
Karl is a sports marketer who has helped steer global megabrands such as the Australian Open, FIFA, WTA Tour and back home with the All Blacks and ASB Classic. He is now leading the charge for the World’s most sustainable sports league – SailGP as it looks to establish itself as a major global player in sport.
Julian Miles QC
One of our city’s best known QCs, "in-depth experience of commercial litigation, defamation, media law, intellectual property and information technology disputes", are the primary credentials of Julian. He is highly sought after by clients to lead complex commercial litigation. On this occasion, leading our legal team, we look forward to Julian’s assessment of why the Nation’s capital should NOT return to Auckland - it's sure to be compelling.

QC of City Chambers, Auckland
Rachael Reed QC of City Chambers, Auckland, is a highly experienced trial lawyer practicing civil and criminal law with particular expertise in fraud. She acts for both Crown and defence as lead counsel and the 20 years in her profession she has behind her so far, make her a formidable opponent in arguing why the Nation’s capital should NOT move to Auckland.
